What we do in class
Children who read often get better at it. Practice makes perfect in almost everything so reading is no different. Children read aloud every session and their progress is recorded at each session. Reading strengthens brains connections.
Children have to sit still and quietly so that they can focus on the story when they are reading. The more they read, the more they will develop concentration. In younger children, reading is teacher-led. Children listen and emulate the intonation of the English language.
The Oxford Reading Tree follows a series of events and adventure of a set of characters. With each stage, children learn improve their vocabulary and language skills. Children learn new words and absorb information to structure sentences and how to use words and other language features effectively in their writing and speaking.
While children engage in a story, the brain translates the descriptions of people and places and things into pictures. With the help of questions, they imagine how the characters are feeling and develop empathy. Young children then bring this knowledge into their everyday play.
Sessions are made to be fun and enjoyable. They take a book home each week to read to their parents. This creates family time together. Children will never be bored if they carried a book around.
